Dear Canton Arts Academy Family and Friends:
On behalf of our staff, we would like to welcome you and your child to the Canton Arts Academy. We are pleased with a successful opening of the second year of Canton Arts Academy. The Canton Arts Academy is a public school housed in the Canton City School district, which serves students in grades 3-8.
The school is designed to serve students who have been identified as having gifted or emerging talent in dance, drama/theatre, vocal music, instrumental music or visual arts. Our rich curriculum offers a project based approach to learning. In addition to the basic curriculum, students incorporate language arts, reading, math, social studies, science, music and visual arts into their learning experiences. A healthy food curriculum, keyboard lessons, choir, band, and orchestra are some of the unique programs that are offered. We are proud of our community partnerships with local organizations, such as, Arts in Stark, the Canton Museum of Art, the Canton Symphony orchestra, VOCI and Republic Waste Services.
We have successfully completed a safe and productive first semester at the Canton Arts Academy. We would like to continue to set high expectations for our students and will encourage them to do their very best. This year in May of 2007, our students will be required by the state to take the Ohio Achievement Tests. (OAT). We are proud to announce that our students have done an excellent job last year and this year on the OAT. The performance of our school’s third-grade students on this year’s fall OAT Reading test is higher than that of third grade students in our district and higher than that of third-grade students statewide.
If parents are interested in having children audition for our program, please feel free to call our office at 330-454-2254 to obtain a nomination form and arrange for a formal assessment. We welcome all inquiries. Parents and guardians are always welcome!
